Harriet Tubman Day Events Announced for City of Auburn

Twenty Dollars and Change: Harriet Tubman and the Ongoing Fight for Racial Justice and Democracy.  Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 7 pm at the Carriage House Theater, 203 Genesee Street, Auburn, NY - Join us on the evening before Harriet Tubman Day for a discussion and book signing with author Dr. Clarence Lusane and his new book "Twenty Dollars and Change." Discussion will be moderated by William E. Berry Jr., CEO and publisher of the literary and visual arts journal aaduna and chair of the Harriet Tubman Center for Justice and Peace.  "Twenty Dollars and Change" places Harriet Tubman’s life and legacy in a long tradition of resistance, illuminating the ongoing struggle to realize a democracy in which her emancipatory vision prevails.

Harriet Tubman Day Ceremony - Friday, March 10, 2023 at 2 pm at the NYS Equal Rights Heritage Center, 25 South Street, Auburn, NY  13021 - Join Mayor Quill, members of City Council, Tubman decendents and special guests for the annual Tubman Day ceremony.  Guest speaker will be Dr. Clarence Lusane.  

Public Meeting with National Park Service - A community meeting will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, 10:30 am - Noon at the Roosevelt Memorial Baptist Church, 101 Fitch avenue in Auburn to discuss the plans for the Thompson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church on Parker Street, part of Harriet Tubman National Historical Park.  Attend this meeting and hear directly from National Park Service staff on the state of current restoration and future operations at the Thompson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, Parker Street, scheduled to open this summer. This meeting is free and open to the public.
