Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan, representing Manchester, participated in a ceremony to dedicate a section of State Route 21 as the “TSgt Kory Wade Memorial Highway.” The event took place on Veterans Day and was attended by Sen. Pam Helming, members of the Wade family, veterans, and local residents. The highway dedication serves as a tribute to U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant Kory Wade, who was from Manchester and graduated from Red Jacket High School.
“TSgt Kory Wade was more than just a son, brother and friend; he was a patriot,” said Gallahan. “From the moment he graduated, Kory felt a deep call to serve his country. He answered that call with courage, honor and humility, qualities that defined his life and his service.”
TSgt Wade served as a medical logistics airman with the 48th Rescue Squadron. His efforts supported rescue missions and earned him commendations such as the Air and Space Commendation Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
He died during a training exercise on June 17, 2023. The dedicated portion of Route 21 runs from its intersection with Route 96 to Latting Road in front of the Wade family home.
“It’s fitting that every person who drives this road will see this sign and be reminded that freedom has a cost,” Gallahan continued. “Kory’s legacy is one of honor, duty and love for his country, his family and his community. This dedication ensures his service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
Senator Helming also spoke at the ceremony: “One of my greatest honors as a New York State Senator is recognizing the courageous men and women who have served our nation with distinction. It’s an honor to join Kory’s family, friends and neighbors in celebrating his life of service. Dedicating this stretch of Route 21 in his name is a lasting tribute to a life of service and sacrifice, and will ensure his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who travel this road.”
Gallahan thanked TSgt Wade’s parents for sharing their son’s story with the community.
