Assemblyman John Lemondes, representing the 126th Assembly District, participated in a bipartisan press conference in Albany to highlight the importance of organ donation and efforts to enhance New York State’s Donate Life Registry. The event is part of initiatives during Donate Life Month, aimed at improving the state’s standing in organ donor enrollment.
According to Donate Life New York, the state was ranked 50th out of 52 states and territories for total organ donor enrollment in 2023. This represents a significant challenge, as nearly 8,000 residents are on the waiting list for transplants. Among these, over 1,000 individuals have been waiting for more than five years.
Lemondes emphasized the vital role of organ donations in saving lives, stating, “Organ donations are imperative for saving lives and Donate Life Month is the perfect time to bring awareness to this important issue.” He further called upon the residents of his district to consider organ donor registration, adding, “Thousands of New Yorkers are on the waiting list for a transplant, and every one of us has the power to help these people in need. I’m glad to have been a part of this bipartisan initiative, and I hope everyone considers registering as an organ donor to save lives across New York.”
