Pierre Attiogbe set a new Ivy League record in the mile during the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University on Friday. Attiogbe ran a time of 3:52.44, finishing seventh overall in the event. This result surpassed the previous Ivy League record by 0.43 seconds, which was held by Harrison Witt of Princeton and set at the same meet last year. Additionally, Attiogbe broke the French U23 national record by more than three seconds.
At the time of this performance, Attiogbe’s mile ranks No. 10 on the NCAA all-time list and places him fifth for this season.
Attiogbe also competed in the 5,000 meters later in the day, recording a time of 13:52.01 in heat four.
Cornell’s men’s indoor track and field team sent a distance-focused squad to compete at one of the top midseason meets nationally, resulting in several strong showings across different events.
In other results from Cornell athletes:
– In the 800 meters, Tyler Tisinger finished fourth with a time of 1:50.15. Edgar Thielens placed 34th (1:52.52), Elijah Schechter was 56th (1:53.46), Noah Cummings took 78th (1:54.91), and Finn Boyle came in at 124th (1:57.78).
– In addition to Attiogbe’s record-setting run, Asher Patel ran 4:10.14 for 141st place in the mile, Will Hauser clocked 4:11.15 for 153rd, Colin Martens finished with a time of 4:11.73 for 164th, and Adam Martinson ran 4:13.00 for 181st.
– For the 3,000 meters, Tyler Canaday finished second in his heat with an 8:05.00 result; Aryan Abbaraju took fourth (8:05.86); Peyton Shute placed nineteenth (8:06.37); Griffin Mandirola posted an eighth-place finish (8:03.41); Adam Martinson was sixth in his heat (8:14.88); and Colin Martens came twelfth (8:19.00).
The Cornell women’s team is scheduled to compete Saturday at the same invitational in Boston while Cornell will also host the Robert Kane Invitational on Saturday at Bartels Hall in Ithaca.
