Cornell senior linebacker Ben Sahakian has been named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference office on Monday.
Sahakian played a key role in Cornell’s recent victory over Princeton by forcing two fumbles. One of those turnovers set up the Big Red’s game-winning touchdown drive. He ended the game with five tackles, including two for a loss and one sack.
With this performance, Sahakian became the first Cornell player since Michael Turner in 2013 to force two fumbles in a single game against Brown.
He is also the third consecutive Cornell player to receive weekly honors from the Ivy League, following Keith Williams Jr., who was recognized as Defensive Player of the Week, and Ryan Matulevich, who earned Rookie of the Week.
This season, Sahakian has recorded 22 tackles, four tackles for loss, and one sack. The Mount Prospect, Illinois native will return to action with his team when Cornell faces Penn in Philadelphia on Saturday, November 8 at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
