Cornell senior long-stick midfielder Brendan Staub was selected by the Philadelphia Waterdogs as the 23rd overall pick in the 2026 Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) College Draft, according to an announcement on April 14.

Staub’s selection marks him as the eighth Cornell player drafted into the PLL since its inception in 2019. He is also the second consecutive Cornell athlete chosen by Philadelphia, following CJ Kirst, who was picked first overall in 2025. Another former Cornell player, Gavin Alder, is also on the Waterdogs roster for the upcoming season.

During his four seasons with Cornell, Staub played in 59 games and started in 32 of them. He currently shares ninth place on Cornell’s all-time list for caused turnovers with Tom Freshour at 55. Staub has scored a total of twelve goals throughout his collegiate career, including three this season. His accolades include being named a Mid-Season All-American by Inside Lacrosse for 2026 and earning All-Ivy honors in both previous years. He is one of four current Cornell players featured on this year’s Tewaaraton Award Watch List.

Cornell lacrosse will continue its season on Saturday, April 28 with an away game against Dartmouth scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. and broadcasted on ESPN+.

Staub’s draft selection highlights continued recognition for Cornell athletes within professional lacrosse leagues.
