Cornell University freshman forward Caton Ryan has been named ECAC Hockey’s Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, according to an announcement from the conference office on Monday.

Ryan contributed significantly during Cornell’s recent games, scoring in both matchups against St. Lawrence and Clarkson. He also recorded an assist in the regular-season finale against Clarkson, bringing his total to three points over the weekend. These three points matched Quinnipiac’s Ethan Wyttenbach for the second-most among ECAC Hockey freshmen, trailing only RPI defenseman Thomas Klassek.

Ryan, who is from Ottawa, Ontario, has accumulated 27 points (11 goals and 16 assists) over 29 games this season. This is the highest point total by a Cornell freshman since Riley Nash achieved 32 points in the 2007-08 season. Ryan joins Ryan Vesce and Nash as one of only three Cornell first-year players to reach at least 27 points since 2000.

Cornell, currently ranked 11th nationally with a record of 20-8-1 overall and 15-6-1 in conference play, will wait to learn its opponent for next weekend’s best-of-three quarterfinal series at Lynah Rink. The team enters as the No. 3 seed and will face the second-highest remaining seed after this weekend’s opening-round games.

The quarterfinal series will include games on Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14 at 7 p.m., with a possible third game on Sunday, March 15 at 4 p.m., if necessary. Tickets will be available starting Monday, March 9 at 9 a.m. EDT.
