The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation announced on Mar. 26 the appointment of Denine Scott as its new Deputy Director of Finance.

Scott said her responsibilities will include direct budget oversight, developing revenue and funding strategies, and ensuring that the services and infrastructure residents rely on are well supported now and in the future. She said, “Stepping into the role of Deputy Director of Finance for the CNR, I will be responsible for direct budget oversight while developing revenue and funding strategies that maximize all available resources, ensuring the services and infrastructure residents depend on are well supported today and into the future.”

Describing her daily routine, Scott said no two days will be alike. She explained that some days she will focus on spreadsheets while other days she will work with leadership and financial staff to translate complex financial information into decisions that benefit residents and the community. Her duties include monitoring daily cash flow, working with department heads to track budgets, preparing financial reports for leadership and stakeholders, presenting data to align decisions with community goals, mentoring staff, and building internal capacity.

In her first few months in this position, Scott plans to get acquainted with her team, facility operations, and business systems to maximize their utility. She emphasized a commitment to listening first before making any process changes: “My first priority is to listen and learn, fully understanding how the County operates in order to inform any process change should it be beneficial.” She added that improving efficiency, transparency, sustainability in financial processes—and identifying areas for improvement or potential revenue growth—will help move operations toward a more proactive approach.

Outside of work Scott enjoys spending time with family and dogs; supporting Buffalo sports teams; hiking or running outdoors; as well as pursuing personal growth.
