Cornell defeated Binghamton 10-6 on Apr. 21, ending the Bearcats’ 11-game winning streak at Bearcats Baseball Stadium.
The game was notable as Cornell hit four home runs and maintained an early lead throughout the contest. The win improved Cornell’s record to 8-23, while Binghamton, which leads the America East conference, fell to 21-14.
Mason Barela started the scoring for Cornell with a solo home run in the first inning. Jayden Shin added another run in that frame on a fielder’s choice. In the third inning, Tyler Beaulieu hit a three-run homer and Ryan Dillon contributed an RBI single to give Cornell a six-run advantage. Trent Lopez then hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning to further extend Cornell’s lead.
Binghamton responded with runs in both the third and fourth innings but could not overcome Cornell’s offense or bullpen performance. The Bearcats managed to close the gap to three runs after Matt Bolton and Steven Kraus drove in scores during their half of the fourth.
Cornell’s bullpen played a key role by combining for five shutout innings, allowing only one hit and striking out seven batters over that stretch. Relievers retired ten consecutive batters to secure the win. TJ Swidorski added his second home run of the game in the ninth inning for insurance.
Tavian Ramos earned his first collegiate win by pitching a scoreless seventh inning. Beaulieu and Lopez each had three runs batted in, while Caden Wildman and Swidorski recorded two hits apiece for Cornell.
Looking ahead, Cornell will return to Ivy League play with a series against Brown beginning Saturday.
