The Cornell baseball team earned its first series victory of the 2026 season on April 4, defeating Dartmouth 4-2 in the opening game of a doubleheader at Booth Field. Dartmouth responded with a dominant performance in the second game, winning 15-0 to avoid a sweep.
The series win marks an important milestone for Cornell (6-17, 4-5 Ivy League), as it is their first since March 29, 2025. The Big Red capitalized on key performances from junior designated hitter Owen Carlson and sophomore pitcher John Hegarty in the opener. Carlson delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning and finished with three hits, while Hegarty struck out four batters over three scoreless innings to earn his third victory of the season.
Senior pitcher Ethan Hamill limited Dartmouth to two runs over six innings after struggling in his previous outing. The Big Red also played error-free defense throughout the weekend’s three-game series, extending their streak to four consecutive games without an error.
In the nightcap, Dartmouth pitchers Nate Kugler and Kyle Klaric-Schell combined for a one-hitter against Cornell. Kugler allowed just one hit across seven innings before Klaric-Schell closed out with two scoreless frames. Offensively, Dartmouth built an early lead by scoring in each of the first five innings and added eight more runs late in the game.
Cornell has now claimed back-to-back regular-season home series wins over Dartmouth for the first time since sweeps in doubleheaders during 1991 and 1994. Despite this achievement, Dartmouth still leads the all-time series between these teams.
Looking ahead, Cornell will travel to Philadelphia next Saturday to face Penn (10-15, 5-4 Ivy League) at Tommy Lasorda Field at Meiklejohn Stadium. All three games are scheduled to stream live on ESPN+.
