Cornell University announced on Apr. 27 that its home baseball game against Bucknell, originally set for Tuesday, has been canceled and will not be rescheduled.
The cancellation comes as the Big Red baseball team prepares for an important weekend series against Columbia. Cornell has won three of its last four games and currently holds a record of 10-24 overall and 7-11 in Ivy League play. Columbia enters the series with a record of 13-21-1 overall and 8-8-1 in conference games.
This upcoming three-game series at Booth Field is significant because both teams are competing for the fourth and final spot in the Ivy League Baseball Tournament. The tournament will take place at the site of the conference’s regular-season champion from May 14 to May 17. Currently, Cornell trails Columbia by two games in the standings, while Columbia is scheduled to play Brown on Wednesday to make up a previously postponed game.
The series between Cornell and Columbia begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 2, starting at 11:30 a.m., followed by a finale on Sunday, May 3, at noon. All three contests will be available via live stream on ESPN+.
As both teams vie for postseason qualification, this weekend’s results are expected to have direct implications for their chances to advance.
