Cornell men’s lacrosse players Willem Firth and Ryan Goldstein were named to the Tewaaraton Award Top 25 Watch List, according to an announcement by the Tewaaraton Foundation on Apr. 18.
The recognition places Cornell among six programs nationally with multiple athletes on the list, alongside Duke, North Carolina, Princeton, Richmond, and Army. The Tewaaraton Award is given each year to the most outstanding men’s and women’s college lacrosse player in the United States.
Firth leads all Ivy League scorers and ranks sixth in the country with an average of 5.09 points per game through 11 games this season. He has scored 35 goals and made 22 assists for a total of 57 points, ranking sixth nationally in goals per game at 3.18 and twenty-second in assists per game at 1.91. His shot percentage of .407 is seventh best in the Ivy League.
Goldstein also stands out from his attack position, ranking third in the Ivy League and twenty-seventh nationally with an average of 3.91 points per game. He leads the conference with his tally of 23 assists—ranking twentieth nationwide at two assists per game—and has contributed another twenty-one goals this season.
Together, Firth and Goldstein have combined for fifty-six goals and forty-five assists so far this season for Cornell’s total of one hundred forty-two team goals as they entered Saturday’s contest against Dartmouth with an overall record of eight wins and three losses (3-1 Ivy League).
Beyond individual honors, Cornell leads all teams nationally in man-up offense conversion rate (63.6 percent) while also topping the Ivy League rankings for clearing percentage (.890) and faceoff winning percentage (.579), which is eleventh nationally. Junior Jack Cascadden leads both conference standings as a faceoff specialist with a .594 win rate—sixteenth best nationwide.
The Top 25 Watch List will be narrowed down to five finalists before a winner is announced at the Tewaaraton Award Ceremony held annually in Washington, D.C.
