The Cornell men’s heavyweight rowing team is set to participate in the Men’s Championship Fours at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday, October 19. The team will enter two boats in what is considered one of the most competitive events in rowing.
In addition to the varsity entries, five alumni boats representing Cornell will compete in various categories on Saturday. These include two entries in the Veteran Eights, as well as entries in the Alumni Eights, Senior Master Fours, and Senior Master Eights.
A notable event for the Cornell rowing community will take place on Saturday afternoon when Dave Clark, a 1982 graduate, is inducted into the National Rowing Hall of Fame at the National Rowing Foundation US Team Reunion Tent. Clark earned a silver medal at the 1984 Olympics in the coxless four while representing the United States.
Cornell will face strong competition on Sunday from other top collegiate programs such as Princeton, Brown, Washington, and Wisconsin. Princeton will also have two boats in the field.
Saturday’s schedule features multiple races for Cornell alumni crews: Men’s Veteran Eights at 9:22 a.m., Men’s Alumni Eights at 10:56 a.m., Men’s Senior Master Fours at 11:36 a.m., and Men’s Senior Master Eights at 12:22 p.m. On Sunday at 1:05 p.m., Cornell’s varsity crews will compete in the Men’s Championship Fours.
Varsity lineups include Sofie Cole (coxswain), Joost Schirm (stroke), Tony Klar, Finn Hayes, and Constantino Oberto Calleri (bow) in Bow #3; and Jack Walker (coxswain), Abe Litvak (stroke), Walid Ghamra, Noah Kanefsky, and Shane Gazdus (bow) in Bow #6.
Alumni crews feature numerous former rowers across different events and boatings throughout Saturday.
Dave Clark’s induction into the National Rowing Hall of Fame highlights Cornell’s legacy in the sport and its ongoing connection to national and international rowing achievements.
