Cornell men’s golf will conclude its regular season at the Roar-EE Invitational hosted by Columbia on April 18 at the Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston, New York.
The tournament marks the final competition before the Ivy League Championship, which is scheduled for April 24-26. The Roar-EE Invitational will feature a field of teams including Canisius, Columbia, Dartmouth, Fairfield, Fordham, Hofstra, Iona, Lafayette, New Haven, Providence, Saint Peter’s, Siena, St. Bonaventure and St. Thomas Aquinas. The event is set as a 36-hole stroke play tournament on a course measuring 6,877 yards.
Junior Tyler Debusschere leads Cornell this season with a scoring average of 75.05 over 19 rounds and recorded the team’s best three-round total with a score of 214 (+1) at the Columbia Autumn Invite in Lake Placid. Debusschere also posted Cornell’s only under-par individual tournament result so far this year—a two-under-par total of 142 at the Matthews Auto Collegiate in Apalachin—where he tied for eleventh place.
Freshman Shep Davis has been consistent throughout his first collegiate season with an average score of 75.32 across nineteen rounds and achieved Cornell’s highest individual finish by tying for eighth place at the Red Bandana Invitational in Verona. Davis matched Debusschere’s low round with a first-round score of 69 during the Columbia Autumn Invite.
Another freshman contributor has been Adithya Venkataraghavan who holds an average of 75.50 and posted his best finish by tying for twenty-ninth place at Lake Placid’s Columbia Autumn Invite. As a team, Cornell’s top performance came during that same event when it recorded an aggregate score of 869; last weekend’s total was their third-best team score this season with a combined tally of 908 over three rounds.
Following Saturday’s invitational contest against regional opponents and Ivy League rivals alike at Wiltwyck Golf Club—the Big Red will shift focus to preparing for next week’s conference championship.
