The Cornell men’s heavyweight rowing team, ranked 13th nationally, split its dual meet with No. 12 Boston University on April 11 at Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, New York.
The event was marked by strong competition and challenging weather conditions, as a cross/headwind affected the races throughout the day. The highlight for Cornell came in the second varsity eight (2V8+) race, where the Big Red edged out Boston University by just over a second.
Cornell’s first varsity eight (1V8+) finished closely behind Boston University’s top crew, trailing by just over five seconds. In the third varsity eight (3V8+), Boston University was disqualified after drifting out of their lane twice; despite finishing nearly two seconds behind, Cornell picked up the win due to this disqualification. In other races, Boston University’s fourth varsity eight (4V8+) finished ahead of Cornell by more than seven seconds.

Looking ahead, Cornell will return home next Saturday to host Syracuse and Navy for the Goes Trophy on Cayuga Inlet. Racing will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Syracuse has won each of the last five Goes Trophy races and holds a six-year streak for claiming the Stagg Trophy.
