The Cornell men’s heavyweight rowing team is set to host Syracuse University in the Cornell Fall Classic this Saturday on the Cayuga Inlet. The event marks a return to home waters for the Big Red and serves as the final competition of their fall season.
Cornell recently competed at the Head of the Charles Regatta on October 19, where both of its Championship Four boats finished among the top eight. The ‘A’ boat, coxed by Sofie Cole, secured seventh place with a time of 15:50.663. The ‘B’ entry, led by coxswain Jack Walker, finished eighth with a time of 15:52.094.
During the regatta in Boston, the ‘A’ crew started strong and was third at the Riverside Boat Club checkpoint before ultimately placing seventh. The ‘B’ boat moved up from ninth to eighth midway through the three-mile course and maintained that position until the end.
The Cornell Fall Classic will feature two races over a 4,000-meter course starting from Cayuga Inlet toward Cayuga Lake. Races are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., with spectators encouraged to watch from the Boatyard Grille for optimal viewing.
This dual meet against ACC opponent Syracuse offers Cornell an opportunity to gain additional racing experience before entering winter training and preparing for their spring championship season.
Boat lineups for Saturday’s races will be announced at a later date.
