Cornell men’s hockey received five All-Ivy League honors on March 11, with three players earning unanimous First Team selections and freshman goaltender Alexis Cournoyer being named Ivy League Rookie of the Year.
The recognition comes after Cornell secured its 27th Ivy League title. The team’s strong performance was highlighted by Cournoyer’s achievements in goal, as well as contributions from junior forward Jonathan Castagna and freshman defenseman Xavier Veilleux, both of whom joined Cournoyer as unanimous First Team honorees.
Cournoyer posted an 8-2-0 record in Ivy contests, leading all Ancient Eight goaltenders with a 1.72 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage. These figures surpassed Dartmouth’s Emmett Croteau and Princeton’s Arthur Smith in their respective categories. Castagna recorded 11 points in Ivy play, tying for third in league scoring and also leading the conference in faceoff wins and faceoff wins per game. He achieved Cornell’s only hat trick of the season at Yale on January 30.
Veilleux finished Ivy play with seven points, tying for second among all Ivy defensemen. His plus-9 rating was tied for third overall among defensemen. Junior forward Ryan Walsh and junior defenseman George Fegaras each earned Honorable Mention honors after tallying seven points apiece against Ivy opponents. Fegaras scored the game-winning goal against Harvard at Lynah Rink on January 24.
Junior defenseman Hoyt Stanley was recognized as Cornell’s Academic All-Ivy selection, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.896 while majoring in hotel administration.
