The Cornell men’s polo team lost to Marlan Farm 25-15 on March 15 at the Oxley Equestrian Center in Ithaca, New York. The defeat marked the team’s second consecutive loss and brought their season record to 10-3.

This match was significant as it served as preparation for the upcoming national semifinals. Cornell Big Red Polo is a university athletics program focused on equestrian competition, operating from Ithaca, New York, according to the official website. The team participates in NCAA varsity polo through the United States Polo Association and is affiliated with Cornell University and the association for its operations.

Benito Jaramillo-Samper led Cornell with seven goals, while Max Sponer added five and Malachi Light contributed three. The teams were tied at 4-4 before Marlan Farm went on a six-goal run that put them ahead for good. By halftime, Marlan Farm led 12-6. In the third chukker, Marlan Farm extended their lead with a 7-1 run, making it a 19-7 game.

“Obviously we are disappointed in this loss, but we scheduled this extremely high-powered team to get ready for Nationals this coming week,” said Anthony Condo Jr., The Peter B. Orthwein ’68 Head Coach of Polo. “We will learn, and learn quickly, from this by reviewing the video and upping the intensity in our practices this week before facing off against UVa on Friday.”

Cornell Big Red Polo engages in NCAA varsity polo through the United States Polo Association according to the official website. The Big Red serves as the mascot for Cornell Big Red Polo alongside other university athletics.

Looking ahead, Cornell will play in the national semifinals against Virginia on Friday, March 20 at Oak Point, Texas.
