The Cornell men’s squash team, currently ranked 10th nationally, will return to home play this Sunday to face No. 7 Drexel at the Belkin Squash Courts. The match marks Cornell’s first contest of the spring semester and its first home appearance since late November.
Cornell, with a record of 4-2, aims to recover from a 9-0 defeat against fourth-ranked Virginia on December 6. Sunday’s competition is set to begin at noon and will be streamed live for free via Stretch Internet.
This fixture is Cornell’s only home match until January 30, when it hosts No. 6 Princeton after the College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championships in New York City from January 23-27.
Despite the recent loss at Virginia, some players delivered competitive performances. Freshman Aly Ezzat pushed his opponent to five games in the No. 2 position, while sophomore Youssef Sarhan won the opening game at No. 1 before falling in four games.
Senior Syan Singh leads the team with a .750 win percentage (3-1) and remains unbeaten (2-0) when playing as the top seed this season. Singh did not compete in the Virginia match but enters Sunday’s contest on a two-match winning streak.
Several players are tied for most victories on the team: freshmen Aly Ezzat and Edward Thng, along with sophomores Youssef Sarhan and Vivaan Shah, each hold a 4-2 record. Freshman Vedant Chheda is also notable with a .667 win percentage (2-1).
Drexel arrives with a record of 4-3 but has lost its last three matches—all against Ivy League teams. Earlier in their season, Drexel secured wins over Franklin & Marshall, Dickinson, and Chatham during the Pennsylvania State Classic before defeating then-No. 6 Princeton on November 22. Since then, they have fallen to Penn (8-1), Yale (5-4), and Columbia (7-2).
On Drexel’s side, Darien Benn, Yuri Pollak, and Tavneet Singh each lead their squad with five wins this season; Dumitru Goian has claimed victory in four out of five appearances.
In series history between these programs, Drexel holds a commanding lead of nine wins to Cornell’s five and has taken five of the last six encounters. Cornell last defeated Drexel at home on January 13, 2024 by a narrow margin of 5-4; their most recent meeting was in Philadelphia on January 15, 2025 where Drexel won by a score of 7-2.
