Cornell University’s men’s outdoor track and field team competed at two separate meets on April 17, turning in strong performances at both the Wake Forest Invite and the Navy Invite.

The events are significant as they highlight the team’s depth and individual achievements, including a new school record in the 1,500 meters.

At the Wake Forest Invite, junior Ryder King placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.41 seconds. He later won the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 51.33 seconds. Edgar Thielens finished fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 48.87 seconds.

Pierre Attiogbe had a standout performance by breaking Cornell’s program record in the invitational 1,500 meters. Attiogbe finished sixth overall with a personal best of 3:36.69, which also moved him to No. 6 on this season’s Division I standings list for that event.

In other results from Wake Forest, Aryan Abbaraju placed twelfth in the invitational 5,000 meters with a time of 14:03.79—a new Division I season mark—while Tyler Canaday followed closely behind in fourteenth place at 14:05.45.

Meanwhile at Annapolis during the Navy Invite, Cornell began competition in the decathlon after completing five events on day one. Kyle Velasco was seventh with a score of 3,238 points while Gabe Ball was eighth with a score of 3,145 points as day one concluded.

The decathlon will continue Saturday morning starting at approximately nine thirty.
