Cornell University freshman Jaxon Joy has been named the Ivy League Wrestler of the Week after his performance at the Clarion Open. Competing in his first collegiate tournament, Joy finished second in the 149-pound weight class.
During the event, Joy achieved a notable win by pinning Ohio State’s All-American Ethan Stiles, who is ranked fourth nationally. This victory advanced him to the finals and contributed to Cornell’s strong start to its wrestling season.
“The Ivy League honor is well deserved,” said The David Dunlop ’59 Head Coach of Wrestling Mike Grey. “Jaxon had a great start to the season. He’s an extremely talented freshman who will be a fan favorite with his exciting style and ability to pin. We’re excited to see him compete again in a few weeks at National Duals.”
Joy comes from Wadsworth, Ohio, where he was recognized as a top high school wrestler. His achievements include being a four-year letterwinner, three-time state champion, four-time state finalist, and serving as team captain for three years at Wadsworth High School. He also received Honor Roll distinction for academic achievement.
At Cornell, Joy is studying Global Development within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
The Big Red wrestling team will next compete at the National Duals Invitational in Las Vegas on November 15–16.
