Cornell University sophomore linebacker Keith Williams Jr. has been named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference office on Monday.
Williams Jr. played a key role in Cornell’s 30-20 victory over Bucknell on Saturday, October 18. He made nine tackles, five of them solo, and intercepted two passes. One of those interceptions occurred with less than two minutes left in the game, helping secure the win for Cornell.
Williams Jr. is the second Cornell linebacker in the past 25 years to have two interceptions in a single game. The last to do so was Holt Fletcher at Lehigh on September 16, 2023. Williams Jr. is also the first Cornell player to receive the Defensive Player of the Week honor since Luke Banbury earned it in November of last year.
So far this season, Williams Jr. is third on the team in total tackles, with 35, including 13 solo tackles.
Cornell is scheduled to play its next game against Brown on Saturday, October 25 at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
