The Cornell sailing team announced on Apr. 2 that it will host the Prosser Team Race Championship on April 4-5 at Cayuga Lake while also competing for the Owen Trophy, which is hosted by Boston University this coming weekend.

These events are significant for collegiate sailing, as the Prosser Team Race Championship brings together the top ten teams in the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) for open sailing competition at Cornell’s Merrill Family Sailing Center. The winner of this eight-team round-robin event will secure an automatic bid to the Team Race Nationals.

Cornell recently secured its fifth consecutive spring MAISA title in either women’s fleet or team racing by winning the 2026 MAISA Spring Women’s Fleet Race Championship at Georgetown. The Big Red established an early lead and maintained it against Georgetown, further cementing their status as a leading program in collegiate sailing.

This year marks Cornell’s return to competing for the Owen Trophy since its eighth-place finish at Kings Point in 2023. While Cornell will not participate directly in the Prosser event itself, it plays a central role as host of one of MAISA’s most important championships.

The outcomes of these competitions will help determine conference representation at national championships and reflect ongoing developments within college sailing.
