The Cornell softball team defeated Le Moyne 14-5 in five innings at Niemand-Robison Field on April 1. With this win, the Big Red improved their record to 12-13, while the Dolphins dropped to 7-21.
The game saw strong offensive production from Cornell, who collected a total of 15 hits and scored in every inning except the fifth. Lauren Holt led the team by going three-for-three with a home run, a double, four runs batted in, and three runs scored. Charlize Cai and Sofia Hernandez also contributed multiple hits and combined for five RBIs.
Emma Harshberger pitched a complete game for Cornell, allowing only four hits and one earned run across five innings. Despite giving up three unearned runs in the second inning that allowed Le Moyne to briefly tie the score at 3-3, Harshberger kept control of the game as her team quickly regained and extended their lead.
Cornell took an early advantage with RBI contributions from Holt and Cai in the first inning. After Le Moyne tied it up with a bases-clearing double by Zarcone in the second inning, Cornell responded immediately with runs driven in by Holt, Hernandez, and Green. The Big Red added five more runs in the third inning thanks to key hits from Frans and Holt’s home run.
Le Moyne managed single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings but could not overcome Cornell’s offense. The game ended after five innings due to run-rule regulations.
Looking ahead, Cornell will return to conference play against Harvard for an Ivy League weekend series starting Saturday at Niemand-Robison Field. The games are scheduled for April 4th as a doubleheader beginning at 12:30 p.m., with another matchup on Sunday at 12:30 p.m., all set to be broadcast on ESPN+.
