The Cornell softball team lost 8-0 to the Princeton Tigers on March 22 at Cynthia Lynn Paul ’94 Field. The game ended after five innings due to the run rule, leaving Cornell with a season record of 7-11 while Princeton improved to 13-9.
This result marks a setback for Cornell as they continue their season, highlighting challenges faced against strong opponents in conference play.
Princeton took an early lead in the second inning when Ratcheson grounded out to bring home a run, followed by Phelps’ RBI single. In the third inning, Roa drove in two runs with a single and Valenzuela added another RBI hit, increasing the Tigers’ advantage. The fifth inning saw Ford hit a home run down the left field line, Zhang deliver an RBI single, and Dominguez cap off scoring with another run batted in.
Cornell struggled offensively throughout the contest and was unable to score against Princeton’s pitching staff. With an eight-run deficit after five innings, the game concluded under collegiate softball’s run rule regulations.
Looking ahead, Cornell is scheduled to face Bucknell on Tuesday, March 24 at Niemand-Robison Field for a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m., with coverage available on ESPN+.
