The Cornell softball team defeated the University of Pennsylvania Quakers 8-7 on Mar. 29 at Penn Park, earning its second Ivy League series victory of the season. With this win, Cornell improved its record to 11-12 while Penn dropped to 12-14.

This result is significant for Cornell as it marks another successful comeback and strengthens their position in the Ivy League standings.

Tarisa Frans led Cornell’s offense with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, scoring two runs and stealing three bases. Olivia Green contributed by going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two runs batted in, while Addison Pressley added three hits as part of the team’s total of thirteen hits for the game.

On the pitching side, Emma Harshberger secured the win by delivering 3.1 scoreless innings in relief, allowing only two hits and stabilizing the game after a challenging middle stretch. Mila Fiordalisi and Laney Freiband pitched early innings before Harshberger closed out the game.

The Quakers took an early lead with a home run from Ganje in the first inning. After falling behind 7-1 following a six-run fourth inning by Penn—which included another home run from Ganje—Cornell began its comeback in the fifth when Green homered to drive in two runs. The decisive rally came in the seventh inning: Avery Wolfe singled to bring home two runs; Harshberger reached on an error that allowed another run; then Charlize Cai reached on an error that brought home two more, giving Cornell an 8-7 lead which they held onto for victory.

Looking ahead, Cornell will play Drexel tomorrow at Drexel Softball Field at 3:00 p.m., with coverage available on FloSports.
