The Cornell softball team swept Bucknell in a doubleheader on March 23 at Niemand-Robison Field, winning both games by run rule with scores of 11-3 and 10-2.
The sweep is significant as it demonstrates Cornell’s strong performance heading into conference play. The team displayed consistent offense and solid pitching across both games.
Lauren Holt led the Big Red, going a combined 4-for-5 with three home runs and seven RBIs. She was especially effective in the first game, finishing 3-for-3 with five RBIs and hitting a grand slam. In the second game, she added a two-run homer to help secure the victory for Cornell.
Pitching contributions were key for Cornell. Mila Fiordalisi earned the win in game one after allowing two runs over four innings despite issuing five walks. Madalyn Covelli provided relief in both contests, giving up just one run over two innings combined. Laney Freiband pitched efficiently in game two, allowing only two unearned runs over four innings.
Cornell’s offense responded quickly to early deficits in both games and built large leads through timely hitting from players like Emma Harshberger, who contributed multiple RBIs including a solo home run in game two. Additional support came from Charlize Cai, Tarisa Frans, Olivia Green, Pressley Ullensvang, Lopez, Susanna Pate and others throughout the lineup.
Looking ahead, Cornell will return to Ivy League action against Penn for a three-game series beginning March 29 at Penn Park. The series includes a Saturday doubleheader followed by Sunday’s finale. All games are scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN+.
