Cornell began its outdoor track and field season on March 27 at the UCF Knights Invite in Orlando, Florida, with several notable performances across multiple events.

The event marked the start of Cornell’s spring campaign, providing athletes an opportunity to set early benchmarks for the season. Senior Ryder King delivered a standout performance in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing second with a time of 51.26 seconds. This result placed him fourth all-time in program history for the event. Head coach Adrian Durant said King’s effort was a significant early-season milestone.

In other events, senior Joseph Rachiele placed 13th in the javelin throw with a mark of 52.74 meters. The pole vault saw senior Kagan Mancabelli and freshman Zachary Davidson each clear 4.79 meters to finish fourth and fifth respectively, while senior Wyatt Ricketts took seventh place at 4.49 meters.

Sophomore Stepan Matura led Cornell in the long jump by placing sixth with a leap of 6.98 meters; junior Kameron Coleman finished sixteenth at 6.36 meters. In throwing events, sophomore Peter Northrup secured fifth place in the hammer throw (61.29m), and freshman Aidan Kerr came twelfth (47.01m). The shot put featured freshman Joe Seib leading Cornell’s group with a seventh-place finish (16.66m), followed by Northrup in ninth (16.25m) and senior Noah Harman tenth (16.20m).

On the track, sophomore Jason Meza added a ninth-place finish in the men’s hurdles with a time of 53.91 seconds.

The Big Red sprint group closed out Friday’s competition with strong showings in the crowded men’s 200-meter dash: sophomore Ricardo Lagares Jr., fourteenth (21.43s); sophomore Panashe Nhenga nineteenth (21.62s); senior Michael Mazero twenty-eighth (21.87s); freshman Garrett Brennan thirty-seventh (22.27s); sophomore Seamus Finn fortieth (22.37s); junior Neil Chowdhurry forty-third (22.47s); and freshman Adam Kaufman forty-seventh (22.65s). Durant called it “a great showing” from Lagares Jr., Nhenga, and others.

“It was a good day with some great season openers,” Durant said about Friday’s results before looking ahead to Saturday’s relays: “Looking forward to the relays tomorrow, the men’s and women’s 4x100s.” Competition is scheduled to resume Saturday morning.
