Cornell University’s women’s indoor track and field team began the Ivy League Indoor Track & Field Heptagonal Championships on Saturday in New York City with notable performances, including a win in the pole vault event. The meet is being held at The Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory and is hosted by Columbia University.
Avery Hilliard secured first place in the women’s pole vault, clearing 4.28 meters to earn the Ivy League title.
Seven athletes from Cornell advanced to Sunday’s finals across several events. Adrianna Allen qualified for the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.56 seconds. Francine Stevens will compete in both the 200 meters (24.34 seconds) and 400 meters (54.87 seconds). In the 500 meters, Sophia Comfere posted a time of 1:11.88, while Elise Sawyer set a personal best with 1:13.38.
Katja Jackson advanced in the 800 meters after finishing in 2:08.47, and Fiona Lee qualified for the final round of the 1000 meters with a time of 2:51.20.
