Cornell women’s ice hockey clinches Ivy League title with overtime win over St. Lawrence

The Cornell women’s ice hockey team, ranked 11th nationally, claimed a 4-3 overtime win against St. Lawrence at Appleton Arena on Friday night. This victory brings Cornell’s season record to 17-10-2 and secures its third consecutive Ivy League title, marking the 18th in program history.

Cornell took an early lead with three goals in the first period. Riley Scorgie opened the scoring at 8:36, notching her first career goal. Alyssa Regalado extended the lead to 2-0 by pushing the puck past St. Lawrence goaltender Lucy Lawrence, and Mckenna Van Gelder made it 3-0 less than a minute later.

St. Lawrence responded late in the first period after Brooke Mulvihill won a faceoff and Alexa Davis assisted Kennedy Wilson for their first goal of the game.

After a scoreless second period, St. Lawrence pulled their goalie late in the third period to gain an extra attacker. Alexia Cote scored twice within a minute, tying the game at 3-3 and forcing overtime.

Grace Dwyer secured the win for Cornell with a breakaway goal in overtime. Dwyer was named top performer for scoring the game-winner, recording six shots on goal and blocking two shots. Goaltender Annelies Bergmann made 32 saves during the match and earned her 17th win of the season.

Following this result, Cornell finished Ivy League play with a 7-3 record.

The Big Red will close out their regular season against Clarkson at Cheel Arena on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., with coverage available on ESPN+.
