Cornell women’s rowing won 10 out of 11 head-to-head races against Rhode Island and Delaware on April 18 at Cayuga Inlet, according to a university announcement. The team competed in a full day of racing under strong tail wind conditions.
The results highlight Cornell’s performance as the team prepares for upcoming competitions. Winning nearly every race demonstrates the team’s strength this season.
In the morning session, Cornell swept all four races against Rhode Island, including victories in the first varsity eight (1V8+), second varsity eight (2V8+), first varsity four (1V4+), and third varsity eight (3V8+). The largest margin came from the Big Red’s win in the 3V8+, finishing 22 seconds ahead of Rhode Island. Cornell also beat Delaware in the second varsity four (2V4+) and defeated Bucknell’s third varsity eight with its fourth varsity boat by more than ten seconds.
During the afternoon session, Cornell faced Delaware and won three out of four races. The Big Red took both the first and second varsity eights while Delaware narrowly claimed victory in the first varsity four by just over two seconds. Despite rougher water late in the day, Cornell finished strong with another win over Bucknell’s third boat by more than thirty seconds.
Delaware experienced an injury and equipment issue during practice that affected their lineup, requiring a coxswain to participate twice between races. In one event involving Rhode Island, official times were not recorded after a referee had to steer their boat around debris following the finish line; however, results were unaffected.
Looking ahead, Cornell is set to host Brown next weekend at Cayuga Inlet for its final home race of the regular season with the Dunn Bowl at stake.
