After finishing the fall semester with a 16-3 record, the Cornell Big Red women’s fencing team is set to compete at the Princeton Invitational. The event will see Cornell face off against Princeton at 2 p.m.
Cornell ended its fall campaign on a strong note, achieving a 4-2 record at the Brandeis Invitational. The team recorded significant wins over Haverford and MIT, with scores of 26-1 and 24-3 respectively. Across all individual bouts at Brandeis, Cornell amassed an overall record of 118 wins to 44 losses, reflecting consistent performance in all three weapons categories.
Sabre has been the team’s most successful weapon this season, holding an 82-31 record for a .726 winning percentage over 13 meets. Senior Erika Chin and freshman Marley Kim were highlighted as key contributors, together posting a combined record of 19-1 during the Brandeis Invitational.
The foil squad also delivered strong results with an 85-36 mark (.703). Freshman Lana Lee and senior Mia Jo each achieved records of 15-3 at Brandeis. In epee, junior Nawal O’Neil went undefeated with a 7-0 result while freshman Anousheh Reid added an 8-2 performance. Overall, epee stands at a steady 75-37 (.670).
Cornell’s depth across sabre, foil, and epee will be important as they open their spring semester schedule against both Princeton and Wagner.
The Princeton Invitational is scheduled for Wednesday, January 14th, with Cornell facing Princeton at 2 p.m.
