The Cornell women’s ice hockey team ended its season after a 7-2 loss to Yale in the ECAC Hockey Tournament semifinals at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, New York. The game marked the first women’s contest held as part of the new Lake Placid ECAC Hockey Tournament.

Cornell took an early lead less than a minute into the game when Avi Adam scored following an assist from Karel Prefontaine. “Avi Adam scores under one minute into the contest to give Cornell a 1-0 lead!” stated Cornell Big Red on social media.

Yale responded with two goals before the end of the first period. Gracie Gilkyson tied it up on a power play, and Emma McGowan gave Yale a 2-1 advantage after capitalizing on a turnover by Cornell.

In the second period, Molly Boyle increased Yale’s lead by scoring off a rebound. Carina DiAntonio added another goal for Yale, putting them ahead 4-1 by the end of the period.

Cornell attempted to rally in the third period with Delaney Fleming scoring early to reduce Yale’s lead to 4-2. “Fleming cuts the deficit to two with 18 minutes remaining in the third period,” reported Cornell Big Red.

Despite having opportunities, including a power-play chance, Cornell was unable to close the gap further. DiAntonio scored again for Yale during a breakaway, and additional goals from DiAntonio and Avery Peters sealed their victory.

Annelies Bergmann made 26 saves for Cornell during the match. For Yale, Samson Frey also recorded 26 saves and was credited as winning goaltender. Carina DiAntonio was named top performer after scoring twice against Cornell.

With this result, Yale advances to compete for the ECAC Hockey Championship while Cornell concludes its season.
