The Cornell women’s ice hockey team, ranked fourth nationally, secured a 5-0 victory over Syracuse on Tuesday at Lynah Rink. With this win, Cornell advances to a 5-0-0 record for the season, while Syracuse drops to 5-6-0.
Scoring for Cornell were Rose Dwyer, Georgia Schiff, Lindzi Avar, Mckenna Van Gelder, and Piper Grober. Assists came from Beatrice Perron-Roy, Delaney Fleming (who had two), Van Gelder, Nora Curtis, Karel Prefontaine, Grober, and Grace Dwyer.
Goaltender Bergmann made 22 saves to earn her third shutout of the season and improved her personal record to 5-0-0.
Cornell controlled much of the first period before Perron-Roy intercepted a pass and set up Dwyer for the opening goal. Schiff added another early in the second period by scoring off a rebound from Fleming’s attempt. Later in the same period, Avar tipped in a power-play goal with assists from Prefontaine and Curtis. In the third period, Van Gelder scored during another power play following a scramble in front of Syracuse’s net. Grober closed out the scoring after receiving a pass from Fleming.
Late in the game, Syracuse pressured with a 3-on-5 power play but was unable to score as Cornell’s penalty kill unit maintained its perfect record this season and preserved Bergmann’s shutout.
Cornell will continue its season at home with an ECAC Hockey weekend series against Yale on Friday at 5:00 p.m., followed by Brown on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
