The Cornell women’s tennis team recorded a 7-0 win over Le Moyne on Mar. 25 at the Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca, N.Y., improving its season record to 7-6 while Le Moyne fell to 1-9.
This result continues Cornell’s strong form at home as it prepares for Ivy League competition. The Big Red, which represents Cornell University and competes in the Ivy League conference, has a history of success including winning the New York State championship in 1984, according to the official website.
In doubles play, Martina Marica and Michelle Ryndin won at the top spot with a score of 6-4. Victoria Zhao and Tanya Fan secured a decisive victory at No. 3 doubles with a score of 6-1. The No. 2 match was left unfinished with Emma Baker and Dylan Gelber leading 5-1.
During singles matches, Cornell swept all six positions without dropping a set. Ryndin led with a win at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-2), followed by Sage Loudon and Dylan Gelber winning their matches convincingly at Nos. 2 and 3 respectively. Baker, Marica, and Fan completed straight-set victories in the remaining singles spots.
The team plays its home matches in Ithaca, N.Y., according to the official website. A bear is recognized as the symbol for Cornell University athletics including women’s tennis according to the same source.
Looking ahead, Cornell will begin Ivy League play against Columbia on Saturday, March 28.
