The Cornell women’s tennis team will travel to face the University of Connecticut (UConn) on Saturday, March 7, as part of its non-league schedule. The match is set for 1:30 p.m. at the Magic Lincer Tennis Club in Manchester, Connecticut.

Cornell currently holds a 5-5 record this season after finishing sixth at the ECAC Indoor Championships. Recent results include a 4-3 win over Dartmouth and a close 4-2 loss to Columbia. Other victories this spring have come against St. Bonaventure, Niagara, Buffalo, and Fairleigh Dickinson University. Last weekend, Cornell swept its matches, including an away win against Buffalo.

Interim Carl H. Meinig ’31 Head Coach of Women’s Tennis Spencer Furman leads a lineup that has gained experience through fall competition. The team saw strong individual performances at both the ITA Northeast Regional Championships and Ivy League Conference Masters events.

Sophomore Sage Loudon (11-9) and junior Michelle Ryndin (8-8) have played in the top singles spot during matches this season. Junior Victoria Zhao (9-9), sophomore Andrea Martinez de los Rios (12-6), and freshman Dylan Gelber (13-6) are also regulars in the lineup. Martinez de los Rios enters the week with a six-match winning streak. Martina Marica, Emma Baker, and Tanya Fan have also participated in dual matches throughout the spring.

UConn enters Saturday’s contest with a 6-3 overall record and is 1-2 in Big East play after splitting recent road matches against Butler and DePaul. First-year head coach Laura Glitz previously coached Cornell from 2004 to 2007 and has accumulated 237 wins as a collegiate head coach, including a program-record 210 victories at Purdue.
