The Cornell women’s tennis team achieved a 4-3 win against UConn on Saturday at the Magic Lincer Tennis Club in Manchester, Connecticut. After losing the doubles point with defeats at the top two positions, Cornell came back by winning four of six singles matches.
Freshman Dylan Gelber leveled the score with a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles. Andrea Martinez De Los Rios followed up with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. UConn secured another point at No. 6 singles before Michelle Ryndin won her match in straight sets at the top spot, defeating Ela Platenikova. Victoria Zhao clinched the team victory for Cornell by winning her match at No. 4 singles with scores of 6-3, 4-6, and 6-2.
This win marks Cornell’s second consecutive road victory as they continue their spring dual-match schedule.
Cornell will next play against Rutgers on Monday, March 16.
The Cornell Big Red Women’s Tennis team is based in Ithaca, New York and is affiliated with Cornell University and the Ivy League conference. The program plays its home matches in Ithaca and uses a bear as its most recognizable symbol for athletics representation.
