The Cornell sailing team announced on April 9 that it will compete in the MAISA Women’s Team Race Championships at Georgetown starting Saturday, April 11. The event is a key opportunity for the Big Red to qualify for the national team race competition.
This championship matters as Cornell seeks its fourth consecutive MAISA Team Race title and its fifth since 2019. The team’s consistent performance highlights its position among top collegiate sailing programs.
Cornell has already secured a conference singlehanded title in the fall and recently won the spring fleet race crown two weekends ago on the same course where this weekend’s championships will take place. In addition to racing at Georgetown, members of the squad will also participate in Navy’s Truxtun Umstead Open Fleet Race in Annapolis, Maryland. Eighteen teams are set to compete at this event.
Last year, Cornell finished 14th out of 17 teams at the Truxtun Umstead race. This year’s participation provides another chance for improvement and broader exposure for team members.
The outcome of these races could determine whether Cornell advances to national-level competitions, continuing their recent run of success.
