Cornell women’s outdoor track and field team competed at Ithaca College on Apr. 21, marking the first outdoor meet at the new Egan Family Complex Track and Field Facility, where every event winner established a facility record.

The meet gave Cornell athletes an opportunity to compete in a new setting while preparing for the final stretch of their season.

Senior Justine Hounsell led Cornell on the track by winning the 400 meters in 57.50 seconds, securing one of several inaugural facility records. Sophomore Sharlyn Ramirez-Castillo finished second in that race and also placed eighth in the 200 meters. In the same event, junior Belle Bennett and freshman Monika Vargas finished second and third respectively.

Cornell’s middle-distance runners swept the top three spots in the 800 meters, with freshman Ivory Piskula taking first place. Junior Sade Falese and junior Emma O’Day followed closely behind. O’Day also won the 1,500 meters with another facility record time. Other notable performances included Bennett’s second-place finish in the hurdles, strong showings from field athletes like sophomore Syna Sony (high jump) and junior Avery Hilliard (pole vault), as well as wins by sophomore Elizabeth Graham (triple jump).

Head coach Mike Henderson said, “This meet was a nice opportunity for us to get some more reps and technical work in as we start approaching the end of the outdoor season.”

Looking ahead, Cornell plans to build on these results when they travel to compete at the Penn Relays later this week.
