The Cornell women’s tennis team lost to Brown University by a score of 4-2 on April 5 at the Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca, New York. Despite winning matches in the top two singles spots, Cornell was unable to overcome Brown’s performance in doubles and other singles positions.
This result affects both teams’ records within the Ivy League conference. The Big Red now holds a season record of 7-9 overall and 0-3 in Ivy League play, while the Bears improve to 14-6 overall and earn their first Ivy win of the season.
Brown secured an early advantage by taking the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Cornell’s pair Michelle Ryndin and Sage Loudon narrowly lost their match at No. 1 doubles with a score of 7-6, while Brown won more comfortably at No. 3 with a score of 6-2; the second doubles match was left unfinished.
In singles play, Ryndin gave Cornell its first point after winning her match at No.1 singles (6-2, 6-1). Loudon followed up with a three-set victory at No.2 singles, temporarily giving Cornell an edge among completed matches. However, Brown responded by winning matches at Nos.4 and No.5 singles before clinching the team victory when Abigail Lee defeated Victoria Zhao in three sets at No.3 singles.
The final scheduled home matches for Cornell will be against Princeton on Friday, April 10th before traveling to face Penn on Sunday, April 12th.
