The Cornell women’s tennis team will start its Ivy League schedule this weekend following a home match against Le Moyne, according to a March 23 announcement. The Big Red is set to host the Dolphins at Reis Tennis Center on Wednesday, March 25 at 5 p.m., before traveling to face Columbia on Saturday, March 28 at the Philip & Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center.
This upcoming week marks an important stretch for Cornell as it closes out its March schedule and begins conference competition. The matches are significant for the team’s standings and momentum heading into Ivy League play.
Cornell currently holds a 6-6 record this season and recently finished sixth at the ECAC Indoor Championships. The team achieved victories over Dartmouth, Buffalo, and UConn this spring but fell in its latest contest against Rutgers. Interim Carl H. Meinig ’31 Head Coach of Women’s Tennis Spencer Furman leads a roster featuring players such as Sage Loudon, Michelle Ryndin, Victoria Zhao, Andrea Martinez de los Rios—who enters with a seven-match win streak—and Dylan Gelber.
Le Moyne comes into Wednesday’s matchup with a 1-8 record after earning its first win of the season over Binghamton under head coach Jameson Keppeler. Paula Casares leads Le Moyne in singles wins. Last year marked the first-ever meeting between Cornell and Le Moyne in Ithaca.
Columbia is ranked No. 51 nationally by ITA and has posted a strong home record under head coach Ilene Weintraub. Gayathri Krishnan has compiled a standout individual record for Columbia, while Sophia Wang also features prominently in their lineup. Cornell aims to end a four-match losing streak against Columbia; the Lions lead their all-time series.
