The Cornell women’s tennis team will play against the University of New Haven for the first time on Sunday, March 22 at the New Haven Tennis Courts in West Haven, Connecticut, according to a March 19 announcement.
This match is notable as it marks the first meeting between the two programs. The Big Red currently holds a 6-6 record this season and recently finished sixth at the ECAC Indoor Championships. Interim Carl H. Meinig ’31 Head Coach of Women’s Tennis Spencer Furman returns with a balanced lineup that gained experience during a competitive fall season. The team was highlighted by strong individual performances at both the ITA Northeast Regional Championships and Ivy League Conference Masters events. Key players include sophomore Sage Loudon (11-11), junior Michelle Ryndin (9-8), junior Victoria Zhao (10-9), sophomore Andrea Martinez de los Rios (13-6), and freshman Dylan Gelber (14-7). Martinez de los Rios enters the week with a seven-match win streak.
The Chargers, led by head coach Chris Raffone, have a 6-4 overall record before their Saturday match at Quinnipiac. They are 4-1 at home and are led by Valentinna Ferrarini, Victoria Togores, and Pierina Lescher in their top three singles spots.
