Cornell women’s outdoor track and field recorded strong performances at two separate meets on April 17, with athletes competing at both the Wake Forest Invite and the Navy Invite.

The team divided its roster between the two events, aiming to maximize opportunities for personal bests and competitive placements. The split squad approach allowed Cornell athletes to showcase their abilities in different disciplines across both meets.

At the Wake Forest Invite, Francine Stevens led Cornell by winning the 400 meters in a time of 53.72 seconds, which is her season best and ranks No. 99 on Cornell’s Division I seasonal list. Katja Jackson also set a personal record in the same event, finishing fourteenth with a time of 57.97 seconds. In another notable performance, Elise Sawyer finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.58.

In distance competition at Wake Forest, Mairead Clas placed thirteenth in the invitational section of the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:13.05—good for No. 77 on this season’s Division I standings.

Meanwhile, Cornell began heptathlon competition at the Navy Invite in Annapolis, Maryland by completing five events on day one. Paula-Marie Brown leads after day one with a total of 3,350 points while Rikki Carver is fifth overall with 2,767 points.

The heptathlon will continue Saturday morning starting at 9:30 a.m., according to event organizers who have made live results available online.
