Cornell women’s track secures fourth at Ivy Heps; medley relay wins title

Cornell University’s women’s indoor track and field team finished fourth at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, held at The Armory Track in New York. The team earned a total of 63 points, placing behind Princeton, Penn, and Harvard but ahead of Yale, Dartmouth, Brown, and Columbia.

The highlight for Cornell was the victory in the 4×4000-meter distance medley relay. The team of Maisie McManus, Olivia Walters, Katja Jackson, and Mairead Clas won the Ivy title with a season-best time of 11:18.98. This performance currently ranks No. 43 in NCAA Division I.

Cornell also achieved two second-place finishes on the track. Francine Stevens finished as runner-up in the 400 meters with a time of 54.01 seconds. Sophia Comfere secured second place in the 500 meters with a time of 1:10.51. Comfere later anchored the 4×400-meter relay team alongside Justine Hounsell, Natasha Redmond, and Stevens to finish fourth in 3:42.40.

Other notable performances included Katja Jackson’s fifth-place run in the 800 meters (2:07.67), which was her season best, and Elise Sawyer’s sixth-place finish in the 500 meters (1:13.54). Arianna Allen placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.60 seconds, while Fiona Lee took seventh place in the 1000 meters (2:50.43).

Francine Stevens also scored by finishing eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.82 seconds.

The Big Red’s scoring concluded with their 4×800-meter relay team—composed of Riley Ebersole, Tenley Nelson, Fiona Lee, and Elise Sawyer—finishing sixth with a season-best time of 8:56.61.

Cornell men’s track and field distance runners took part in the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic on April 11. Freshman Zach Leader and senior Zachary Winnicki represented Cornell in the invitational 5,000 meters. More information about their performance will be available soon.
