Cornell men’s hockey freshman Alexis Cournoyer was named the Ken Dryden Goaltender of the Year and earned First Team All-ECAC Hockey honors, according to a March 12 announcement from the conference office.
The recognition highlights Cournoyer’s strong performance during his first season. He posted a 16-7-0 overall record with a 2.01 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage in regular season play. In ECAC Hockey games, he appeared in 19 contests, recording a 13-6-0 record and leading all conference goaltenders with a .919 save percentage and 13 wins.
Junior forward Jonathan Castagna also received First Team All-ECAC Hockey honors. This marks the second time in three seasons that Cornell has had multiple players on the First Team. Castagna finished the regular season with 32 points (14 goals and 18 assists), tying for tenth-most points in ECAC Hockey. His average of 1.10 points per game ranked fourth in the conference, and his three short-handed goals led all ECAC Hockey players.
Cournoyer is only the seventh Cornell goaltender to win the Ken Dryden award since its inception in 1996, joining previous winners such as Ian Shane (2024) and Matthew Galajda (2018). He is also just the fourth true-freshman goalie to earn First Team All-ECAC Hockey honors, following Galajda (2018), Don Sylvestri (1981), and Christian Soucy (1992).
The Big Red finished their regular season ranked ninth nationally with a record of 20-8-1 overall and 15-6-1 in ECAC Hockey play. The team will begin its pursuit of a third consecutive Whitelaw Cup by hosting Harvard this weekend at Lynah Rink in a best-of-three quarterfinal series.
