Eight goal scorers lead Cornell past St. Bonaventure, 12–6

Cornell defeated St. Bonaventure 12–6 on March 11 at Schoellkopf Field in the first meeting between the two women’s lacrosse programs.

The win was marked by a balanced offensive effort, with eight different Cornell players scoring goals and the team improving its season record to 4–3.

Dillyn Patten opened the scoring for Cornell midway through the first quarter, followed by Gretta White who doubled the lead shortly after. St. Bonaventure responded with two goals to tie the game at 2–2 by the end of the first period. In the second quarter, Cornell outscored their opponent 5–1, building a significant halftime advantage. Ellie Bergin started this run with a goal assisted by Lilly Whaling, and White added her second of four total goals soon after. Lexie Tully and Kathleen Michaud each scored unassisted before White completed her hat trick just before halftime, giving Cornell a 7–3 lead.

Emily Iacobellis extended Cornell’s lead early in the third quarter during a player-up opportunity assisted by Michaud. The Big Red maintained control throughout the final period, with Iacobellis adding another goal and Holly Newman, Madeline Pohmer, and White closing out scoring in the last three minutes of play.

White led all scorers with four goals while Iacobellis contributed two. Patten, Tully, Pohmer, Michaud, Newman, and Bergin each scored once. Wilmot and Whaling provided two assists apiece; Michaud and Lawton added one each. Goalkeeper Mackenzie Clark made 12 saves to anchor Cornell’s defense.

Cornell also led in ground balls (21–15), draw controls (14–6), and total shots (37–23). Wilmot, Caitlin Tully, and Clark collected three ground balls each; sisters Caitlin Tully and Lexie Tully had two caused turnovers apiece.

Cornell is scheduled to play next against Boston University on Tuesday, March 17 at noon in Boston.
