Cornell men’s lacrosse players Willem Firth and Brendan Staub were named to the Inside Lacrosse Mid-Season All-America teams, according to an announcement on April 3. Firth was selected for the second team, while Staub received honorable mention.
These recognitions highlight the individual performances of both athletes during the current season. Such honors can draw attention to their contributions and reflect positively on Cornell’s lacrosse program.
Firth, a junior from Ottawa, Ontario, leads Cornell in points per game with an average of 5.13 and is fourth nationally in that category. He also leads the Ivy League in both points per game and goals per game at 3.13 over eight games this season. Firth has recorded 25 goals and 16 assists for a total of 41 points so far this year. He is also the recipient of Cornell’s Hard Hat award for embodying the team’s work ethic. In addition, he ranks tied for eleventh all-time at Cornell in man-up goals with fifteen and is tied for thirty-sixth all-time in career points with one hundred fourteen.
Staub, a senior midfielder from Garden City, New York, has been recognized as one of the most disruptive defensive players in the Ivy League this season. He currently ranks seventh in caused turnovers per game within the conference. His career total of fifty-five caused turnovers places him tied for ninth all-time at Cornell.
The Big Red currently hold a five-win and three-loss overall record with two wins and one loss in Ivy League play this season. The team will next compete against No. 15 Penn at Franklin Field on April 4.
