Senior catcher Lauren Holt and first-year utility player Tarisa Frans were recognized on Mar. 30 with Ivy League weekly awards following their recent performances against Bucknell and Pennsylvania.
These distinctions highlight the impact both athletes had during the Big Red’s successful week, as their efforts contributed to a series of wins for Cornell’s softball team.
Holt was named Player of The Week after hitting .538 with five home runs and 11 runs batted in over five games. She also posted a .700 on-base percentage and a 1.692 slugging percentage, moving into third place all-time in Ivy history for career home runs with 38. Her performance included multi-home run games against Bucknell, where she went 4-for-5 with three home runs and seven RBI in a doubleheader sweep. Against Penn, Holt delivered two more home runs, including a crucial three-run homer that secured a win in game one. She also scored the winning run in an extra-inning comeback victory over Penn after drawing her fourth walk of the day.
Frans earned Rookie of The Week honors by hitting .643 with a .722 on-base percentage across the same stretch. She scored six runs, drew four walks, stole three bases, and recorded nine hits out of fourteen at-bats. Frans had multi-hit games throughout the week and finished strong against Penn by going 4-for-4 with three steals in Cornell’s comeback win. Her seventh-inning single extended an inning that led to five Cornell runs and clinched the series victory.
The team is scheduled to play Drexel next at Drexel Softball Field today at 3:00 p.m., with coverage available through FloSports.
