Senator Pam Helming is encouraging young people in her district to join the 2025 Summer Reading Program. The program, themed “Color Our World: Colorea Nuestro Mundo,” aims to foster a love for reading among children and teens during the summer.

Participants who read at least three books by the end of summer will be awarded a personalized Summer Reading Certificate signed by Senator Helming. Families already engaged in their local library’s summer reading initiatives are also welcome to join this program.

Senator Helming emphasized the benefits of reading, stating, “Reading with children builds creativity and connection. When kids read on their own, they go on journeys, explore new ideas, and expand their imaginations. It’s so important to keep that spark alive during the summer months. Whether you’re in elementary school, high school, or anywhere in between—pick up a book, visit your local library, and join us in celebrating the power of reading!”

Parents or guardians interested in enrolling their children can do so by visiting helming.nysenate.gov. They need to click on the Summer Reading Program icon and submit their child’s name along with the titles of books read. The submission deadline is August 22, 2025.
