Cornell University freshman outfielder Jake Hower was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week, according to a March 9 announcement from the conference. This marks Hower’s first weekly honor and is the first time a Cornell player has received the award since Mark Quatrani in April 2024.
The recognition comes after Hower’s performance during a three-game series at Fordham, where he posted a .364 batting average with four hits in eleven at-bats, including a home run and three runs batted in. He was one of four Cornell players to achieve an on-base plus slugging percentage above 1.000 during the series. His most notable moment occurred in Saturday’s doubleheader when his solo home run in the seventh inning secured a 3-1 victory for Cornell.
In addition to his offensive contributions, Hower stole a base, reached base twice by being hit by pitches, recorded twelve putouts, and did not commit any errors during the series. So far this season, he has started all ten games for Cornell, maintaining a .333 batting average with two doubles, one home run, and seven runs batted in. He has reached base in nine out of ten games and has recorded at least one hit in eight appearances.
Hower is originally from Erie, Pennsylvania. The team will continue its season-opening sixteen-game road trip with an upcoming three-game series against VMI beginning March 14. All games are scheduled to be streamed live on ESPN+.
The award highlights both Hower’s early impact as a freshman and Cornell baseball’s ongoing efforts during their extended road schedule.
